Valentine’s Day drama: Friends fight over girlfriend in KZN

It is reported that the fight was so intense that one of the friends produced a replica gun during the dating brawl on Valentine’s Day

While many relished Valentine’s Day with their significant other, young friends ‘blinded by love’ in KwaZulu-Natal had their day spoiled after they fought over a girlfriend.

It is reported that the fight was so intense that one of the friends produced a replica gun during the dating brawl in Mt View, KwaZulu-Natal.

“At approximately 17:25 (Tuesday) Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to Bridgeford Drive in Mt View, Verulam by several residents who feared for their safety after witnessing a man draw a firearm in the presence of minors,” the reaction unit explained.

“Reaction Officers converge on the scene and found a 22-year-old male clutching a pistol. Officers approached the man and deprived him of the firearm.”

The company further established that the firearm was a replica gas gun and was produced during a fight between the suspect and his friend over a female.

“A mobile phone was also broken during the altercation. Both parties declined to open a criminal case and no arrests were made,” RUSA reported.

In other news, a 29-year-old burglar was shot after he attacked an off-duty Policeman in Hazelmere, KwaZulu-Natal yesterday, Monday, 13 February.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) reported that they received a call for medical assistance from the Verulam SAPS at approximately 08:01.
“On arrival, it was established that the injured male was a burglary suspect,” said RUSA.
RUSA reported that the homeowner, a Policeman based in the Eastern Cape, was informed by neighbours that his house was being burgled.

“Neighbours informed him that suspects had broken into his residence and were removing household items throughout the weekend. The SAPS Official returned to his residence this morning and discovered the front door was broken. He entered the house and interrupted the suspect who was in the process of gathering valuables. The intruder grabbed a hammer and attempted to attack the homeowner when he shot him in the thigh. The suspect immediately surrendered,” the report read, further confirming that the victim (Policeman) was not injured.
