Unit 1 of Kusile Power Station is operational again

Kusile Power Station’s Unit 1 is back in action, giving a significant boost to South Africa’s economy, according to Minister of Electricity.

In a surprising twist, the Minister of Electricity has shared that unit 1 at Kusile Power Station is back in action, and this is giving a big boost to South Africa’s economy.

Eskom revealed the good news on Monday, telling everyone that this unit started working again a month and a half ahead of schedule, even though it had been offline since late last year.

What did Ramokgopa say about the Unit at Kusile Power Station being back in action?

Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, who is the Minister in the Presidency for Electricity, is really happy about the return of the unit.

“Not just unit 1, but units 2 and 3, which were turned off due to safety concerns about the stack’s structure since August 2022, are also back in action much earlier than expected, adding 800MW of power to the national grid.

“Unit 3 returned on September 29, 2023, two months earlier than anyone thought.

“Unit 2 is next in line to restart in November 2023, and Unit 5 will start working for the public in December 2023,” said Ramokgopa.

The return of the unit is going to boost the South African economy

The Minister said that this power station’s return is a big step towards boosting South Africa’s economy, securing jobs, and making sure more people have access to electricity, which is important for a better life.

He also praised Eskom’s Generation team for their hard work in making the electricity supply more stable and reducing power cuts.
