Unemployment rate in SA hits highest mark in more than 10 years

Statistics SA’s figures puts South Africa’s unemployment rate at its highest since 2003.

According to Fin24, SA is sitting at 26.4% unemployment; the only time we hit above this is in 2003 when we had 30% unemployment, according to SA’s Statistician-general Pali Lehohla.

5.5 million Of SA’s 35.8 million working age folks are sitting without jobs, while the government is importing engineers from Cuba to work on civil engineering projects in the Free State and elsewhere throughout the North of the country.

Along with this, South Africa’s GDP has fallen by R14 billion when compared to the first quarter of last year, with some of our main industries suffering considerable setbacks.
