ActionSA question authenticity of Nasi iSpan jobs program

ActionSA has claimed that the Gauteng government jobs campaign Nasi iSpan is merely a publicity stunt.

The party has voided to lodge an appeal in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), seeking access to employment records of the more than 7000 employed through the program.

ActionSA’s provincial chairperson Funzi Ngobeni says the ANC is electioneering through this campaign.

“We have maintained and reiterated consistently that the hiring scheme is a mere PR stunt led by Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, to campaign and secure votes for the ANC through the abuse of state resources”, says Ngobeni.

“Panyaza and the province should be willing to disclose the relevant information that is of public interest and concern, especially if they continue to assert that they have nothing to hide.”

MORE OF GAUTENG’S YOUTH EMPLOYED

Last week more than 5000 of the provinces youth gained employment through the progam, with more expected to be hired in December.A

Those appointed included 250 Civic Education Ambassadors, 2248 early childhood development practitioners, 517 building inspectors and 2166 crime prevention wardens.

Despite the number of youth employed, Ngobeni says it is because of the ANC’s doing that a large number youth is unemployed.

“At a time when youth unemployment is at its highest in the province at 63.9%, it is unconscionable for the Gauteng Government and ruling party to abuse the scheme for nefarious political ends” Ngobeni adds.

“The very same government that is leading this hiring scheme is responsible for the millions of people seeking jobs.”
