The day many Tyla Seethal fans have been waiting for has finally arrived — her first album drop. The South African-born singer catapulted to fame after her single Water went viral on social media. Millions of TikTok users participated in the song’s dance challenge, and soon, she had a remix featuring American rapper Travis Scott.

She then went on to win a Grammy for the song and later announced her world tour that was pushed back due to “an injury that has tragically worsened.”

For the past few weeks, Tyla has been hyping the release of her self-titled album TYLA, which features big international stars like Tems, Becky G, Gunna, Skillibeng, and Mzansi producer Kelvin Momo.

While the album has received praise so far, many locals are blasting the Kelvin Momo feature that they are calling “trash.”

Tyla’s TYLA finally hits the airwaves

Tyla is one of the biggest artists to come out of South Africa, and locals are nothing short of proud.

The singer’s hit song Water brought her international success and a Grammy Award to go with it. And now her debut studio album, TYLA, has finally dropped.

The album, released on Fax and Epic Records, features collaborations with a star-studded line-up, including Nigerian hitmaker Tems, American rapper Gunna, singer Becky G, and rapper Travis Scott.

Locally, she collaborated with Amalobolo hitmaker Kelvin Momo, who is a big hit among amapiano lovers.

Not enough “oomph”?

The album‘s interlude, titled Intro, has, however, left fans feeling a little underwhelmed.

Only 41 seconds long, many have argued that it doesn’t offer enough — especially considering how big Kelvin Momo is.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter,) one fan wrote, “Kelvin Momo and Tyla what did we do to deserve [sic] can we please have the full song, that intro voice note is not enough.”

Another wrote:

“Honestly, that Tyla Intro was a real fumble, had the chance to introduce the world to real amapiano and not the diluted stuff everyone’s been hearing.”

Still a hit, though

Needless to say, her fans – or “Tygers” as she calls them — have shared hundreds if not thousands of compliments with the 22-year-old.

While the album has only been out for a few hours, she is already trending on X as many discuss her offering.

Meanwhile, on TikTok, dance challenges with her new songs are already beginning to surface.
