Tshwane to build low-cost houses in Bronkhorstspruit

The City of Tshwane joined hands with the private sector to build 20 low cost houses in Bronkhorstspruit.

The City of Tshwane and HCI Palesa Mine entered a memorandum of understanding to build 20 low-cost houses for indigent households in Bronkhorstspruit Region 7.

TSHWANE LOW-COST HOUSES FOR INDIGENT PEOPLE

This understanding is in line with the city’s mission to eradicate the housing backlog and to see deserving beneficiaries get adequate housing and restore their dignity.

Tshwane Executive Mayor Randall Williams said the HCI Palesa Mine will fund the construction costs, valued at R3,5 million, as part of its community development project. The city will provide serviced stands and ensure the installation of sewer, water, reticulation, and electricity infrastructure.

The mayor recently joined Economic Development and Spatial planning MMC André le Roux, Housing and Human Settlement MMC Kgosietsile Kgosiemang and the Chief Executive Officer of HCI Palesa Mine, Pieter Terblanche in a ceremony to mark the construction of 20 low-cost houses in Bronkhorstspruit in Region 7.”

PROPER HOUSES RESTORES THE DIGNITY OF THE PEOPLE

Williams said this public-private partnership came about after HCI Palesa Mine approached the city last year to enquire about the best way to uplift the community of Region 7, where the mine operates.

“The project beneficiaries of the low-cost houses include indigents, child-headed families, and people with disabilities in Bronkhorstspruit. The city carefully selected them with assistance from social workers and ward councillors in consultation with the mining company.”

The mayor thanked HCI Palesa Mine for giving back to the community and for economic opportunities to the residents through the low-cost houses they will help built in Bronkhorstspruit.
