Over the last few months, South Africans have learned that City of Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga has wanted to sell the pricey Mayoral mansion. Now, that mansion has finally been sold for R5.1 million rand.

Good Governance: Tshwane council votes to sell multi-million Mayoral Mansion

The Democratic Alliance (DA) released a statement on Thursday revealing Msimanga’s plan for spending that money to help the people of Tshwane. The DA-run government intends to build a total of 52 RDP houses inclusive of land and services.

“The DA-led multiparty administration made it clear when they took office in 2016 that they will prioritize the needs of the residents of Tshwane, especially the poor and cut down on everything that the administration deemed to be frivolous.”

Msimanga echoed his party’s statements.

Money from Solly Msimanga’s mayoral home sale will go towards building houses

“After being voted in as the political head of the City of Tshwane, I refused to move into the Mayoral Mansion because I have long maintained, even during my days on opposition benches, that corrupt activities took place with respect to that house by the former ANC administration.”

The new DA government carried out an investigation into the house. It found that the previous government spent R12 million on renovating the house. The problem? The most recent valuation of the house came out at R5 million.

Msimanga thanked the new owner for their service to South Africans.

“I therefore, thank the successful bidder for helping us help the people of Tshwane by taking this property off our hands so we may tend to our core business which is to help our people live a better life of dignity. I equally thank all the other bidders for showing interest in this property.”

The DA claim that the 52 houses will provide homes for over 200 people.
