The City of Tshwane Executive Mayor Randall Williams congratulates the matric class of 2022, saying the pass rate has improved from the 2021 rate.

MAYOR CONGRATULATES MATRIC CLASS OF 2022

“On behalf of the City of Tshwane, I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to the 2022 matric learners for achieving an overall pass rate of 80,1%.”

“This is up from 76,4% in 2021,” Williams said.

“The 2022 matriculants endured Grades 10, 11, and 12, studying through a difficult period that included the COVID-19 pandemic and worsening load shedding.”

TSHWANE MATRIC RATE IMPROVED FROM 76.4% TO 80.1%

The mayor said learners experienced severe strain, and the Ministry of Basic Education conceded that regular load shedding negatively impacts the basic education sector.

“Electricity is needed for teaching and learning, especially for specialised schools where equipment is needed.”

The Tshwane mayor said despite the challenges, matric learners have proved their resilience.

“Nationally, all the provinces achieved a pass rate above the 70% mark. We applaud their enduring spirit and commitment in this regard.”

“I would also like to congratulate our very own Tshwane South District and the Gauteng North District for being the fourth- and fifth-best performing districts at 89,0% and 87,7%, respectively,” Williams said.

Williams also thanked the teachers, school management, and parents for their commitment and support in advancing education for the learners.

“To the learners who did not achieve their desired results, this is not the end. There are many other available avenues to improve your results and achieve your goals,” Williams said.
