Change is Now leader Roger Jardine says the nation’s true state is one of broken dreams. 

The former banker and all-round businessman Roger Jardine has become the latest influential figure to form a political party, hoping to overthrow the ANC at next year’s general election.

TO RESTORE FAITH IN DEMOCRACY SOCIAL SOLIDARITY NEEDED

He says that by throwing his name into the hat, he hopes his party can bring much-needed expertise from the business sector to bear on government processes.

“If we are to become a country that is truly pro-poor and restores faith in democracy, this should go hand-in-hand with a strong social solidarity compact between the extremely rich and the extremely poor.”

LACK OF JOBS A RESULT OF INSTABILITY SAYS JARDINE

Addressing the Cape Town Press Club on Tuesday, Jardine said he believed the lack of investment and joblessness was at the heart of the country’s instability, Eyewitness News reported.

The former FirstRand chairperson said the African National Congress (ANC) had failed in too many respects to allow it to continue to govern. He said his party was open to working with most political parties, but first, it needed to solidify its base.

JARDINE: COALITIONS NOT ABOUT SHARING THE SPOILS

“Coalitions in our view cannot be about sharing the spoils. We intend to be part of a coalition that forms the next government on the basis of a shared view of the visions, values, and platform for change.” 

Change is Now is set to share its vision for government when it launches its party manifesto later this month. Jardine became the Director General of South Africa’s Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, at the age of 29 surpassing the previous record held by Niel Barnard.
