A heartbreaking revelation came to light—a tragic discovery unfolded as the lifeless form of a newborn, still connected by its umbilical cord, was found at a dumping site in Siyabuswa, Mogononong, Mpumalanga.

A tragic discovery was made when a body of an infant, complete with an umbilical cord, was located at a Siyabuswa dumpsite in Mogononong, Mpumalanga.
Times Live reports that the police have initiated an investigation into potential concealment of death.

Body of an infant found while collecting recyclables
According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesperson for Mpumalanga police, a woman collecting recyclables spotted a body of an infant with its umbilical cord intact.
She reported the discovery, leading to an investigation. The infant’s mother, considered a suspect, remains elusive.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on the whereabouts of the mother to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via the MySAPS app.
“All received information will be treated as confidential, and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” he said.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a police spokesperson, stated that the infant was discovered interred in a shallow trench within her Giyani residence.
“They became suspicious and on Monday, they looked around the yard and noticed a shallow grave. Community members gathered at her house in her absentia and police were notified. They immediately followed the leads and traced the woman.

“She was taken to her house, where she pointed out a shallow grave in which she buried her daughter.”
Inquiring, the mother explained that her disabled daughter had passed away due to sickness.She informed the police that she alone laid the child to rest because there was no birth certificate.
