A traffic officer was killed on Thursday morning on the R71 road next to the Kolobe Lodge in the Mopani district in Limpopo.

This is tragic! A traffic officer was killed on Thursday morning on the R71 road next to the Kolobe Lodge in the Mopani district in Limpopo.

A TRAFFIC OFFICER WAS KILLED ON THE R71 ROAD IN LIMPOPO

Vongani Chauke, the spokesperson for the MEC for transport and community safety in Limpopo, says according to information, Itani Robinah Ravele (36) was run over while she was diverting traffic at an accident scene.

“There may have been a fault with the brakes of the car, together with a fast speed,” said Chauke.

Ravele was attached to the Phalaborwa traffic station.

MEC Florence Radzilan expressed her sadness at Ravele’s death and offered condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues.

“Ravele served the traffic department with integrity and dedication to keep the people on the roads safe. We call on everyone to take extra precautions during this long weekend and follow the road rules. We also encourage everyone to treat our traffic.”

says Radzilan.

Earlier this year, a traffic officer for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison (DCSSL) was killed on the N4.

Gijimane July Nkabinde, 57, who was on duty at the Middelburg weighbridge at the time of the accident, was identified as the traffic officer who tragically died.

Nkabinde was allegedly directing the truck to the weighbridge located along the road at the time of the accident.

EARLIER THIS YEAR ANOTHER TRAFFIC OFFICER WAS KILLED WHILE ON DUTY

The investigation into the events leading up to this tragedy is underway.

Mpumalanga’s MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues.
