Traffic INCREASE on N3 after long weekend

Gauteng Traffic officials said that they will intensify visible patrolling across the province to ensure safe returns for holidaymakers.

Traffic authorities on the N3 say they are registering an increase in traffic from KZN to Gauteng as holidaymakers are returning from the Easter long weekend.

TRAFFIC TO INCREASE FROM 12 TO 6 PM

N3 Toll Concession Operations manager, Thania Dhoogra says they have recorded over 1500 vehicles per hour heading north by Monday morning thus far.

“Motorists are advised to plan ahead and prepare for busy traffic on the route throughout the day to get busy between 12 pm and 6 pm,” she said.

GAUTENG OFFICIALS TO INCREASE PATROLLING

Gauteng officials said that they will intensify patrolling across the province to ensure safe returns for holidaymakers. On Monday morning Gauteng’s roads have already recorded over 20 fatalities over the long weekend.  

According to Gauteng Police spokesperson, Sello Maremane most of the accidents were a result of jaywalking, reckless driving, and ignoring traffic signals.

Road Inspectorate may implement traffic calming measures to limit congestion and improve safety, particularly along the Van Reenen’s pass.

“Law enforcement operations will also be conducted to monitor road users through intensified pedestrian operations.”
