These areas in Cape Town will have no water for 9 hours

The city of Cape Town has a 9 hour water outage that is scheduled for Tuesday 19 December, Wednesday 20 December and Thursday 21 December.

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has scheduled maintenance work, causing water supply disruptions starting Tuesday, 19 December.

The city has scheduled a number of maintenance works to ensure the best quality in the long term, according to their statement.

THESE ARE THE AFFECTED AREAS IN CAPE TOWN

Claremont – Hartfield Road between Main Road and Worchester Road, as well as surrounds between 09:00 and 18:00 on Tuesday, 19 December 2023.

Claremont/Newlands – Between Main Road, Albion Road, Rosendale Road, Rouwkop Road and including St Andrews Road, as well and surrounds between 09:00 and 18:00 on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.

Rondebosch – Milner Road, between Avenue De Mist and Kromboom Road, as well as surrounds between 09:00 and 19:00 on Thursday, 21 December 2023.

WHAT OF THE QUALITY OF THE BEACHES?

Cape Town’s coastal beaches continue to boast excellent quality, as revealed by the latest round of water sample results.

Conducted independently over the past seven weeks, the analysis, including samples from 5 and 7 December 2023, affirms that all eight of Cape Town’s Blue Flag beaches, the city’s most frequented, maintain a flawless 100% compliance with the stringent Blue Flag water quality standards set by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).

Additionally, the three Blue Flag Pilot beaches, Mnandi, Strandfontein, and Hout Bay, also exhibit perfect adherence to these standards.

Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews, emphasised the reliability of these results as the best indicator of current coastal water quality, encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy the pristine beaches during the festive season.

“I want to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy their days out on the beach, and to make the most of what our wonderful city offers during the festive season.

“The results obtained from our monitoring programmes for over the past seven weeks confirm the water quality at Cape Town’s most popular beaches is excellent by global standards,” said Andrews.
