Bester approached the dock on Tuesday morning, well groomed and comfortable, in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court, where 11 of his co-accused were already sitting.

He smiled coyly at his claimed major collaborator and sweetheart, Magudumana, as he sat down next to her, seeing her for the first time since their arrest in Tanzania in April.

Magudumana was cheerful as she approached the dock, wearing white Nike crew-neck top and hugging her father.

Bester, who was clean-shaven, wore a white Louis Vuitton crew-neck sweater.

Before the procedures began, the pair seated next to each other were lost in their own world, exchanging grins and longing glances.
