Police arrested suspects shortly after a business robbery; it is believed that they may be linked to other serious crimes

On Friday, 20 January 2023, the Apel Police detained two suspects immediately after they reportedly committed a business robbery in the village of Atok.

Five suspects involved in tuck shop robbery

Five suspects armed with firearms allegedly entered a tuckshop in Atok village and robbed the owner of an undisclosed sum of money.

The suspects fled the scene in a silver-grey VW Polo with no license plates.

Police were immediately notified, and a tactical snap operation was launched in the area.

The suspect’s vehicle was discovered in Pelangwe village, where one suspect was apprehended.

Police search mountain to find suspects after robbery

One of the suspects took off running for the mountain.

The officers then searched the mountain, and the second suspect was apprehended following a shootout with them.

The suspect was shot and injured during the process.

While being escorted by police, he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Suspects may be linked to other serious crimes

The suspects may be linked to other serious and violent crimes in the process as police investigations are unfolding.

The two suspects, aged 29 and 41, are scheduled to appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court soon.

They will appear on charges of business robbery, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The search for the remaining suspects continues.
