He’s the Premier of North West, but Supra Mahumapelo hasn’t exactly led by example. The politician has been no stranger to scandal and he could be set to suffer the consequences…

Mahumapelo is facing a motion of no confidence from his province, as brought forward by the EFF. It’s not often the red berets see eye-to-eye with the DA, but both opposition parties are desperate to bring down a Supra-villain.

His latest adventure has seen him get involved in a dodgy deal with Denel CEO, Zwelakhe Ntsephe. The corporate bigwig is alleged to have given Mahumapelo’s son a R1 million bursary to study at a prestigious school, without following due process.

However, that’s a walk in the park compared to the rest of his premiership.

Why do they want Mahumapelo out of office?

Why was Supra Mahumapelo’s no confidence motion postponed?

We all thought Tuesday would be the day Supra faced up to his misgivings. But a last-minute move to take things to court has brought him a bit more time.

The EFF appealed to the courts to get the vote changed so it is held by secret ballot. However, Mahumapelo is not in favour of this.

It’s all very “shades of Jacob Zuma”, who was also concerned that a secret ballot would motivate his own party members to vote against him in a Parliamentary motion of no confidence in August 2017.

For now, Mahumapelo lives to fight another day. But it may not be enough to keep him in a job.
