The increasingly unpopular Supra Mahumapelo has given a cryptic clue to what the future holds for the North West premier, as reported by News24.

It was suspected on Monday that he would make a decision on what to do next. The provincial leader has faced numerous allegations of corruption and poor governance during his four years in office.

His recent refusal to resign amid a proposed vote of no confidence caused riots in the province, as an angered public took to the streets to fiercely make their feelings about Mahumapelo known.

The ANC’s Top Six have met at Luthuli House to discuss the matter of Supra’s future. It almost seems like a foregone conclusion, with the party’s executive reportedly ready to recall him.

Is Supra Mahumapelo resigning?

Although no immediate action was taken – Supra remained in position to deliver his budget speech on Tuesday – it would appear that something big may be happening by the end of this week.

He told the provincial legislature that he will hand over a letter to the speaker on Friday and that its contents are “in line with the constitution”.
