According to a statement released by TUT, a group of students – including Phehla — were marching between the university’s campuses before moving into the streets of Soshanguve, where they disrupted traffic and the driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Sally de Beer told News24 that the incident took place at around 13:35 on Thursday afternoon and the cops are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Phehla was not the only student injured in the accident, but as far as we know the only one who died.

Folks on social media claimed it was the police who had actually been involved in Phehla’s death, but De beer denied any police involvement in the tragedy.
