Since vaping took off and became somewhat “fashionable”, smokers and non-smokers have been arguing about the health risks of vaping and whether it is better or worse than cigarettes.

THE DOCUMENTARY TELLS THE STORY OF VAPE CULTURE’S BIGGEST BRANDS

The new Netflix documentary, ‘Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of JUUL’, tells the story of vape culture’s biggest brands.

BIG VAPE tells the high-drama, rags-to-riches story of the controversial electronic cigarette company Juul, which transformed from a scrappy Silicon Valley tech start-up run by two idealistic Stanford graduate students intent on making the world a better place into a multi-billion-dollar tobacco company that sparked an epidemic of youth addiction and lung disease.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Health has conducted more public hearings on the new Tobacco Products and Electronic Delivery Systems Control Bill.

NEW SMOKING LAWS FOR SOUTH AFRICA

The new Bill has been met with both support and vehement opposition, depending on the clauses being focused on.

Broadly, the bill aims to introduce the following:

  • Indoor public places and certain outdoor areas will be determined to be 100% smoke-free.
  • Ban the sale of cigarettes through vending machines.
  • Plain packaging with graphic health warnings and pictorials.
  • Ban on display at point-of-sale; and
  • The regulation and control of electronic nicotine delivery systems and non-nicotine delivery systems.
