Station Strangler at home under house arrest

Convicted rapist, murderer and suspected Station Stranglers spends his first weekend in 28 years outside of prison walls.

Norman Afzal Simons also known as the alleged station stangler has been released from jail and has spent his first weekend at home for the first time in 28 years.

Simons was arrested and convicted of the kidnapping, rape and murder of Elroy van Rooyen. His body was found a few days laterays later in the bushes in Kleinvlei.

MIXED EMOTIONS OVER SIMONS RELEASE

21 other boys had unfortunately suffered the same fate, but police could not link Simons to the other 21.

The moniker ‘Station Strangler’ came about due to all the victims being lured away from the train station.

The Department of Correctional Services met with the community of Mitchell’s Plain earlier this week and news of Simon’s release was met with mixed emotions.

Van Rooyens family was completely against Simons release.

Simon’s was released under the veil of secrecy at 7am on Thursday morning and will spend his life on parole under house arrest. 

The department of correctional services assured the Mitchell’s Plain community of their and their children’s safety as Simon’s will be under strict parole conditions.

SIMONS PAROLE CONDITIONS:

  • He will be allowed around children
  • He will not be allowed to be around drugs and alcohol 
  • He will be allowed to leave his magisterial district without permission 
  • He will be allowed to visit the doctor but under supervision 
  • He will be allowed four hours a month outside the house under supervision 
  • He cannot change his address without permission 
  • He may not speak to the media not publish articles 
  • He will be allowed to seek employment 
  • He will have eight contact visits per month which include office visits by Simon’s, and home visits by the parolee officer.
