Eskom said Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 to 24:00 TODAY.

STAGE 2 LOAD SHEDDING TO START AT 16:00

This comes after the power utility announced Stage 2 load shedding earlier this week.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said it cautions the public that due to the shortage of generation capacity, Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented from 16:00 to 24:00 this evening.

He said the power utility would communicate should anything change.

“The breakdowns of a single generation unit at the Duvha, Kendal and Kriel power stations during the last 24 hours, as well as the delays in returning units to service at Arnot, Kusile and Tuktuka power stations, have put a severe strain on the power generation system.

During the same period, Eskom teams have returned a unit each at Arnot and Tutuka power stations to service. While a generation unit each at Kriel, Majuba and Tutuka are expected to return to service over the next 24 hours, this will still be insuffient to stave off load shedding for Thursday afternoon.

“We currently have 4 550 MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 182 MW of unavailable due to breakdowns. We, therefore, urge all South Africans to continue using electricity sparingly.”
