AfriForum’s Ernst Roets and his family were caught up in the armed robbery at Spur in the Centurion Lifestyle Centre on Sunday night.

AfriForum leader, Ernst Roets and his family were caught up in an armed robbery at Spur at the Centurion Lifestyle Centre on Sunday night.
Roets and his family were there to celebrate his son’s birthday when the incident happened.
AfriForum Head of Policy and Action, Ernst Roets said an armed gang stormed the place just when he and his family had finished paying and were stepping out.
“An off-duty police officer had his weapon with him. A shooting erupted and one of the attackers was shot dead and the others fled. I couldn’t count how many shots were fired. As far as I know no one else was injured.
“We got trauma counselling right away and under the circumstances we are fine.”
Emer-G-Med said just after 18h30 on Sunday night, paramedics responded to a popular family restaurant in a shopping mall in Centurion for reports of a shooting incident.
“Reports from the scene are that a male approximately thirty years of age was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.
“It is believed that the deceased was a suspect in an armed robbery incident, however the South African Police were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly.”

A four-year-old boy tragically drowned in a large pond at a smallholding in Mnandi, Centurion last week Tuesday.
According to Community Emergency ResponseTeam (CERT SA), Ruan Heyns, when they arrived at the scene, they found members of the Olievenhoutbosch CPF in attendance and providing CPR to the child.
“It is unknown exactly how long the child was submerged underwater in the large pond before he was found by his parents. Bystanders initiated CPR. The boy was declared dead on the scene.”
