City of Cape Town Mayor has blessed Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi with a special gift.
Hill-Lewis gave Mbonambi his gift on Friday, 3 November as the 2023 Rugby World champions were in the Mother City to parade the Webb Ellis Cup.
Bongi Mbonambi almost missed the 2023 Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks after England’s Tom Curry accused the hook of a racial slur.
Mbonambi was then dragged on social media especially by English fans, however World Rugby found that there was no evidence of any racial abuse.

To celebrate their back-to-back Rugby World Cup win, the Spirngboks are on a tour in major cities in South Africa. On Friday they kicked off their Cape Town leg by making a stop at the iconic City Hall where various government leaders and the public came out in numbers to celebrate the Boks.
Mayor Hill-Lewis then gifted Mbonambi a Springboks T-Shirt written “Wen kant” which means winning side when translated to English.
Meanwhile, France captain Antoine Dupont said he believes that Tom Curry owes Bongi Mbonambi an apology.
“I knew this was the case all along. Bongi is a great guy. I really think an apology should be given over this,” Dupont wrote in an Instagram comment.
