Police: Manhunt for gun-toting, knife-wielding double murder suspect

The police said an unknown suspect wreaked havoc in an Eastern Cape tavern on Friday. Two victims were killed and two more assaulted.

The police in the Eastern Cape is on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly committed a double murder in the early hours of Friday, 28 January.

POLICE INVESTIGATE TAVERN SHOOTING

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the province Captain Lariane Jonker said an unidentified male suspect entered a local tavern in the Newvale locality of Mlungisi and fired “warning shots into the air.”

According to the police report, the suspect also wielded a knife in his other hand, which he used to stab a 38-year-old victim before shooting him in the upper body.

“The suspect then also shot the 35-year-old tavern owner in the upper and lower body, and assaulted another two customers in the tavern,” said Jonker.

The two victims who were shot succumbed to their injuries and were certified dead at the scene by Emergency Service personnel.

A double murder case has been opened and no arrests have been made thus far.

Now, the police are turning to the community for assistance.

Members of the public with information that may assist the investigation are encouraged to come forward.
