The ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) has concluded that it will be standing with its President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Section 89 Report review.

As Ramaphosa himself faces allegations of corruption, he decided to choose this as the topic for his weekly newsletter.

Search and rescue operations continued on Monday, 5 December, after several people drowned when swept away in the Jukskei river.

It is now reported that at least 18 people from various churches were swept away in flash floods when taking part in a baptism.

A video of a man confronting the owner of Hank’s Old Irish Pub in Cape Town over an alleged racist incident at the Cape Town drinking establishment has gone viral on social media.

And lastly, parts of Johannesburg have been battered by a hailstorm and flash flood. The SA Weather Service had issued a level 5 warning.

ANC NEC stands with Cyril Ramaphosa over Section 89 Report

The ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) has concluded that it will be standing with its President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Section 89 Report review.

Following a special sitting by the NEC in NASREC today, Monday, 5 December, Treasurer General Paul Mashatile communicated the outcome of the meeting during a media briefing this evening.

Mashatile said: “The ANC NEC met in a special session on Monday 5 December 2022, to deliberate on the Section 89 Parliamentary Report. The President of the ANC Mr Cyril Ramaphosa attended the special NEC meeting and made remarks after which he was allowed to recuse himself”.

Ramaphosa: The fight against corruption is gathering steam

As President Cyril Ramaphosa himself faces allegations of corruption, he decided to choose this as the topic for his weekly newsletter.

In the newsletter, he said they have been working hard for the past five years to end the looting of resources meant for the benefit of South Africa‘s people, to prosecute those responsible, and to recover stolen funds.

“When we embarked on this journey, we understood that the results would not be felt overnight.

“We first had to rebuild state institutions that had been deliberately weakened, emptied of expertise and rendered incapable of preventing capture by criminal elements. We had to strengthen law enforcement institutions and shield them from outside interference.”

A video of a man confronting the owner of Hank’s Old Irish Pub in Cape Town over an alleged racist incident at the Cape Town drinking establishment has gone viral on social media.

It is alleged that a black man was denied entry to the pub by a bouncer and told that he needed to be accompanied by a white person to enter.

WATCH: Hailstorm and heavy rain hit parts of Johannesburg

Hailstorm and heavy rainfall have been reported in parts of Johannesburg, Gauteng on Monday, 5 December. 

Residents in Randburg, Northcliff and other areas took to social media to share videos and images following the inclement weather conditions. 

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had issued a high-level 5 warning for thunderstorms, hail and excessive lightning for Monday for several parts of the country.
