Freezing levels with up to 20cm SNOW expected in these parts of SA

Freezing levels with up to 20cm SNOW are expected in these parts of South Africa this weekend.

According to Voxweather, forecaster Annette Botha, freezing levels are expected to drop significantly from Saturday into Sunday as a strong cold front and possible cut-off low is expected to bring rain and SNOW.

“A significant drop in temperatures is expected across the Cape Provinces and our neighbouring country NAMIBIA.”

WATCH: Gatvol taxi driver takes hijackers on a hell ride

A video of a Gatvol taxi driver taking hijackers on a hell ride after threatening to shoot him has gone viral.

The video starts as the usual dashcam footage of an unsuspecting driver picking up two passengers.

This ride quickly turned into hell as the two passengers pulled out a firearm to rob the driver while threatening to shoot him.

SASSA: One more week to go for payments 

There are just seven more days till the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries can begin receiving their money, starting from Wednesday 2 August.

The older persons will be the first to be paid out on the 2nd. They will be followed by the disability grant and any other grant linked to it (such as the care dependency grant) will be paid out on Thursday 3 August. On Friday, the child support grant and other remaining grants will be paid out.

Armoured cash-in-transit vehicle blown up in Durban

While Gauteng has become synonymous with cash-in-transit heists, another armoured truck was blown up and cash stolen in Durban this evening, Wednesday, 26 July.

KZN members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the scene of a cash-in-transit robbery in KwaMashu after 6pm.

“The RUSA Phoenix Operations Centre became inundated with calls after the occupants of four vehicles opened fire with high calibre rifles on a G4S cash vehicle near Bridge City Mall in KwaMashu – Kwazulu Natal,” RUSA detailed.

“Some callers reported hearing an explosion.”

City of Ekurhuleni accused of failing to implement load shedding

Eskom says it will now directly implement load shedding to City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) customers in all the substations that were previously handed over to the municipality to manage. 

According to the power utility  the City of Ekurhuleni failed to comply by not adhering to the NRS 048-9:2019 code of practice which requires electricity distributor licence holders to reduce load during a declaration of a system emergency.

Crawford International Pretoria College has dismissed a substitute teacher who was seen to be promoting racism in a classroom by writing derogatory words on a classroom board

The incident reportedly happened on Monday, 24 July and a video recorded by learners has since gone viral.
