The Joburg Roads Agency updated that it has cordoned off the road that has collapsed in the CBD after a gas pipeline explosion.

LOOK: Joburg Roads Agency performs Emergency Road Closure in Jozi CBD

The Joburg Roads Agency is currently performing an emergency road closure following the collapse of the road in the CBD.

Initially, Joburg Roads Agency released a statement confirming knowledge of the incident.

“The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is aware of an explosion on Bree Street in the Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) possibly on the underground gas pipeline,” the entity wrote.

JHB GAS explosion: Several people injured in the explosion

Paramedics said several people were injured in the underground GAS explosion in the Johannesburg inner city on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency Services are still busy on the scene while buildings in the vicinity have been evacuated. 

According to ER spokesperson Russel Meiring the City of Johannesburg EMS, Disaster Management and several other services responded to Johannesburg CBD after receiving reports of an underground gas explosion.

WARNING issued for disruptive SNOW now in these parts of SA

A level 2 warning for DISRUPTIVE SNOW was issued for several parts of South Africa on Wednesday afternoon. 

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), the level 2 warning is in place from 12:00 on Wednesday afternoon up until Thursday midnight.

BREAKING: Vladimir Putin will NOT attend BRICS Summit in SA

The Presidency has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend the BRICS Summit in South Africa next month.

This comes as the International Crime Court (ICC) has issued a warrant of arrest for Putin as he is accused of being responsible for the war crimes of unlawful deportation of children and the unlawful transfer of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation under Articles 8(2)(a)(vii) and 8(2)(b)(viii) of the Rome Statute.

Sign language becomes 12th official language

President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially signed South African Sign Language as the 12th official language at a ceremonyatthe Union Buildings. The move makes the country the fourth on the continent to have sign language as an official language following Kenya, Zimbabwe and Uganda.

Member of Parliament Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen thanked Ramaphosa for his recognition of sign language back in 1996 during the drafting of the Constitution which he chaired.
