IPID has arrested eight officers who beat up civilians on the N1 in Johannesburg and will appear in court tomorrow.

Another tremor hit Johannesburg on Saturday, just a month after a large tremor was recorded in Boksburg.

Moja Love now finds itself at the centre of controversy after a man believed to be a drug dealer died. The man, known as Robert “Kicks” Varrie, had been the subject of a drug bust in Katlehong on 19 July 2023, which was attended by the Sizok’thola crew.

In other news, Norman Afzal Simons also known as the alleged station stangler, has been released from jail and has spent his first weekend at home for the first time in 28 years.

IPID to arrest Mashatile’s VIP Protection Officers

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), has announced that they will be arresting the eight officers who are part of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s VIP protection who were caught on camera assaulting two civilians on a Johannesburg highway.

IPID spokesperson, Robbie Raburabu says their investigators will be processing the suspects at the Sandton Police station following authorization by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The eight members will be held in custody until their appearance in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Did you feel it?Johannesburg experiences another tremor

It’s been a week of ground shaking moments in Johannesburg, from a gas explosion that ripped apart Lillian Ngoyi Street commonly known as Bree Street and now residents in the Westrand experience a tremor on Saturday evening. 

ALSO READ: Another 2.9 magnitude earthquake reported in Johannesburg

According to the Council for GeoSciences a 2,98 magnitude tremor was recorded, with its epicenter close to Harmony Gold Mine in Doornkop.

No injuries have reported.

Alleged drug dealer dies after raid by Sizok’thola crew

Moja Love now finds itself at the centre of controversy after a man believed to be a drug dealer died. The man, known as Robert “Kicks” Varrie, had been the subject of a drug bust in Katlehong on 19 July 2023, which was attended by the Sizok’thola crew. The show has fast become one of the channel’s most popular as it exposes drug dealers in the townships.

“It is our understanding that the information received by the crew and the local community groups was credible and verifiable,” the channel said about the raid.

According to Moja Love, the bust by the Sizok’thola crew, along with community law enforcement groups, was conducted lawfully. The channel alleges that during the raid, Varrie initially refused to cooperate.

Station Strangler at home under house arrest

Norman Afzal Simons also known as the alleged station stangler has been released from jail and has spent his first weekend at home for the first time in 28 years.

Simons was arrested and convicted of the kidnapping, rape and murder of Elroy van Rooyen. His body was found a few days laterays later in the bushes in Kleinvlei.

21 other boys had unfortunately suffered the same fate, but police could not link Simons to the other 21.
