WATCH: Carte Blanche anchor Derek Watts diagnosed with skin cancer
Iconic TV anchor of Carte Blanche journalist Derek Watts will be stepping away from the camera to focus on his health after he announced that he was diagnosed with skin cancer.
According to a statement by Carte Blanche, Derek was diagnosed with skin cancer that had spread to his lungs.

“With the support of his family and specialists, he was able to continue doing what he loves best: bringing his cherished viewers the stories that have shaped our country.
“While this news is undoubtedly disheartening, we remain hopeful and optimistic about Derek’s journey toward recovery. We have complete confidence in the expertise and dedication of his medical team, who will provide the best possible care and support throughout this process.”

Residents of Gauteng awoke to the ground shaking around them in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.0 magnitude tremor in Gauteng at around 02:30.

Residents took to social media to share their experiences of being awoken by their homes shaking and furniture rattling.
China assists SA with BRICS Summit security amid Putin arrest warrant
China has assured South Africa security support for the BRICS summit in August amid controversy over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s possible attendance while an international warrant is out for his arrest.
According to a report by South China Morning Post during a meeting with South African Police Minister Bheki Cele in Beijing on Thursday, Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong said China was willing to work with South Africa to “strengthen the security” of the BRICS summit.
Eskom: R500m security contract was above board
Eskom issued a statement on Sunday, saying everything was above board in the procurement of the contract that cost the power utility just shy of R1.7 million a month.
It was awarded to Fidelity Services for three months in 2022.

The power utility says it was in line with procurement procedures and Treasury directives for emergency procurement.
SA has had more load shedding so far than the whole year of 2022
Although the total hours for load shedding in 2023 have not surpassed those of 2022, Eskom has confirmed that the demand of electricity not met has exceeded that of 2023.
Eskom is currently implementing Stage 1 and 4 load shedding alternatively. Based on the hours some people have been without electricity in a day recently, there were claims that the power utility was implementing a stage which is higher than 6.
A graph from the app Load Shedding Notifier which showed that the amount of load shedding, measured in gigawatt hours, would surpass that of 2022 sometime this week has been circulating on Twitter.
