Spectacular RAINBOW CLOUD spotted over Gauteng
Residents of Gauteng were treated to a special surprise on 7 December when a rainbow cloud was spotted in several areas.
Photos of this phenomenon were widely shared on social media, and many people were ecstatic to see such a rare beauty.
A rainbow cloud can form because of a phenomenon known as cloud iridescence.
Just in: 27 December will be a PUBLIC HOLIDAY this year
The Presidency announced that Tuesday, 27 December, will be a public holiday in 2022, on Thursday morning, 8 December.
Christmas Day falls on Sunday and the Day of Goodwill – another public holiday – falls on Monday, 26 December.
President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 27 December a public holiday in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holidays Act (Act No 36 of 1994).

A video of Newcastle deputy mayor Musa Thwala allegedly losing control of his BMW gusheshe and crashing into spectators has gone viral.
It is believed the incident took place at the old Monte Vista Casino in Newcastle last month.
Two videos were posted on social media of Musa, popularly known as “Sugar”, showing off his spinning skills.
Almost R1 million spent to ‘shield’ Ministers from load shedding
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has reportedly spent almost R800 000 to shield Ministers from load shedding.
This was revealed by Public Works Minister Patricia De Lille to the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Eskom is currently implementing Stage 6 load shedding. Energy experts are yet to rule out the possibility of Stage 8 rolling blackouts as the power utility is reportedly battling with breakdowns of generating units.
Seven infants have died of pertussis in the Western Cape
The Western Cape government noted an increase in the province’s pertussis (whooping cough) cases. Since January, the country has recorded approximately 408 laboratory-confirmed cases, more than half of which are in the Western Cape.

Most cases of pertussis have been detected since September 2022. The Western Cape said it is home to 230 cases; however, the province cautioned that the number of cases likely only represents a small fraction of the actual infections in the community.
