The Automobile Association (AA) said unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) indicates a MASSIVE increase in the prices of both grades of petrol.

MASSIVE petrol price increase planned for next week

The Automobile Association (AA) said unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) indicates a MASSIVE increase in the prices of both grades of petrol.

Petrol prices are currently at R22.64 a litre (93) and R22.97 (95) inland. The expected increase would put these fuel grades at R23.16 and R23.53 per litre, respectively.

According to the latest data from the CEF, ULP95 is expected to climb by around 52 cents/litre, and ULP93 by around 56 cents/litre.

Catching flights: FlySafair to sell tickets for R9 in annual mega-sale

Get your coins ready. South Africa’s favourite low-cost airline, FlySafair, is selling tickets for R9 as part of its 2023 mega sale.

This year, flights will be taking off for just R9! The 2023 theme has been dubbed “The Lucky R9 Sale”.

The annual gimmick gives customers the chance to buy flight tickets to “all major destinations in South Africa” from as low as R9 ($0.49) per ticket.

Avian flu detected in Western Cape, 120 000 birds culled

The provincial Agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer confirmed that avian flu had been detected at two poultry farms in the Western Cape.

According to SABC News, Meyer said the flu strain is unknown at this stage. Approximately 120 000 birds have died since the outbreak was confirmed last week.

The infected birds were culled as quickly as possible – as is standard practice – as there is no vaccine or treatment for the avian flu. Meyer told the broadcaster the risk of humans being infected with the avian flu remains low.

National Health Department denies ‘serious’ condom shortage

The Department of Health said there are no serious shortages of condoms in South Africa after it emerged that there was a shortage at Gauteng Health facilities.

As previously reported, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said the short supply in the province was due to supplier issues.

“Contract RT75_condom suppliers didn’t have stock to deliver to Province from the inception of the new contract in February 2022 as suppliers were awaiting SABS sample approval prior ordering bulk stock from the manufacturers,”

wrote Nkomo-Ralehoko in reply to a question from the DA in the legislature.
