Brace yourselves! South Africans are going to have to dig more into their pockets when paying for electricity as the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has granted Eskom an 18% tariff hike.
NERSA approved Eskom’s fifth Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD5) revenue application which was made earlier in 2022 on Thursday, 12 January 2023.
In a briefing on Thursday, NERSA said its decision has been checked against the rationality and legality principles and is satisfied with it.
News just in. The High Court will deliver its ruling on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s bid to interdict the private prosecution summons issued against him by Jacob Zuma on Monday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa approached the court after former President Jacob Zuma charged him with being an accessory after the fact in his case against State prosecutor Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan.
He has accused them of breaching the NPA Act by leaking his confidential medical records in the arms deal case.
It was confirmed on Thursday that the death toll has risen to 40 people following the Boksburg tanker blast in December.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said four more people have died after being injured in the Boksburg tanker blast.
The police reportedly said they are still waiting for documents from the company which owns the tanker.
A German paraglider who sustained critical injuries after he allegedly crashed his head into Lion’s Head in Cape Town has reportedly died.
The paraglider, believed to be in his 40s, was hospitalised on Tuesday afternoon, 10 January.
As previously reported, emergency service ER24 was called to Lion’s Head just before 14: 00 and found the man wedged between two large rocks, being tended to by bystanders.
Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained severe injuries to his head and was in critical condition.
The Department of Employment and Labour warned businesses that the employment equity (EE) reports deadline is SOON.
Department of Employment and Labour Director for EE, Ntsoaki Mamashela, advised employers to submit their reports on time and not wait until the last ‘second’. Mamashela warned that if the system is jammed with many people logging simultaneously, it risks crashing.
Designated employers must submit their annual 2022 employment equity (EE) reports by 15 January 2023 at midnight.
