WATCH: Hailstones the size of eggs pelted down in Gauteng

Hailstones, some as big as chicken eggs and golf balls, pelted down in parts of Gauteng on Sunday evening, leaving residents in awe and shock.

For many residents, the hailstorm was nothing short of a terrifying experience. Some described the deafening roar of hailstones impacting the roofs of their houses, likening it to the sound of gunshots. The sheer force of the hail left many shaken and concerned about the damage it might have caused.

Possible snowfall is expected TODAY in these parts.  

According to the Lesotho Meteorological Services it was partly cloudy and warm, with light to moderate north-westerly wind becoming strong at times on Sunday afternoon.

Good News: Minister of Electricity welcomes return of Kusile Unit 1

With power continuing to be cause for concern, Minister of Electricity Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa shared some positive news today regarding Kusile power station on Monday, 16 October.

In a brief statement, the Ministry of Electricity welcomed the return to service of Kusile Unit 1, ahead of schedule.

“The return of unit 1 continues to strengthen the stability of generation performance and adds 800MW into the grid,” he said.

‘Stronger together’: Ramaphosa hails Springboks for their victory

President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated the Springboks on their Rugby World Cup quarter-final victory over France.

The Springboks defeated France with a final score of 29-28 in an intense game on Sunday, 15 October.

The Springboks will face off with England on Saturday, 21 October.

The eThekwini Municipality has released a list of roads that are affected by the heavy rain in and around Durban.

The list is accurate as of Monday night, 16 October 2023.

  • R102 and Glen Anil both bounds closed
  • M4 southern freeway, Quality street right lane is closed
