Eish! What a day! Bheki Cele has accused Julius Malema and the National Police Commissioner of plotting to remove him from his position.
Malema dared Cele to repeat the claim ‘outside where there is no Parliamentary privilege.’
When the MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi visited Hoërskool Jan Viljoen on Monday, he thought he would get more clarity on an alleged racial fight amongst learners that took place last week. Little did he know it was only the tip of the iceberg.
While Lesufi met with educators, learners and parents inside the school premises, police had their hands full outside as protesting parents and members of political parties clashed.
Police fired stun grenades to disperse the rowdy crowds.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, a toxic batch of school meals are thought to be the reason behind mass hospitalisations of children at a primary school in Port Alfred on Monday – after dozens of learners were left requiring urgent medical treatment.
Scores of Kamvalesizwe Primary School were given their meals, as per the government’s National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP). However, something was gravely wrong with the food on offer.
Shortly after the lunch break, learners started dropping like flies, reporting symptoms such as stomach cramps and vomiting. A full investigation is now underway.

‘Meet me outside!’: Malema and Cele clash over alleged ‘coup plot’ [watch]
Bheki Cele clearly did not take kindly to being slighted in Julius Malema’s speech at the SONA debate on Monday, 14 February. When he took to the podium himself, the Minister of Police, fired back and accused the EFF leader of plotting to remove him from the cabinet.
CELE ACCUSES MALEMA OF PLOTTING WITH POLICE COMMISSIONER
Cele said Malema will have to wait until he wins an election before appointing cabinet ministers.
Earlier on Monday, Malema said Cele should never have been appointed to the cabinet position as he also served as National Police Commissioner for two years, in the past, and said the Minister was competing with the current top cop, Khehla Sitole.
Cele spoke of a secret meeting between Sitole and Malema, which he believes took place on the 10th of December 2020. He said the pair cooked up a plot to remove him from his office.
“I’m not going to go back to the 10th of December 2020, where there was a meeting between yourself and the national commissioner and the plan and the plot was hashed that I must be chased. So, I’m not surprised that today this is happening,” said the police minister.

Just in: 120 learners hospitalised after eating government-provided school food
A toxic batch of school meals are thought to be the reason behind mass hospitalisations of children at a primary school in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape on Monday – after dozens of learners were left requiring urgent medical treatment.
Scores of Kamvalesizwe Primary School were given their meals, as per the government’s National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP). However, something was gravely wrong with the food on offer.
Shortly after the lunch break, learners started dropping like flies, reporting symptoms such as stomach cramps and vomiting. A full investigation is now underway, and the Eastern Cape Education Department has released a statement:
“About 120 Kamvalesizwe Primary school learners, in Kenton-on-Sea, outside Port Alfred have been admitted at the Port Alfred Hospital after complaining of stomach aches and vomiting, this afternoon.”
“It is alleged that these learners started showing signs of this after having a meal served at their school during the lunch break period as part of the National School Nutrition Program. Departmental officials from the district, provincial office and the Department of Basic Education are on site monitoring the situation.”

British Airways crew member found dead in Johannesburg
Police have launched an investigation after a British Airways crew member was found dead in South Africa’s crime-ridden Johannesburg.
Robert Gay, 52, had taken a flight from Heathrow in London to Johannesburg and was found dead hours later. Gay had reportedly went for a night out in town with colleagues.
Gay was reportedly found collapsed on the floor and unconscious.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful. He also had no visible injuries.
According to the Sun on Sunday, a publication from the United Kingdom, crews have previously reported attacks and that parts of the City of Johannesburg are “lawless”.
It appeared he was walking back to the crew hotel and got separated from his friends and was found dead at 4am on 5 February.
Transnet suspends Blue Train operations ‘until further notice’
Transnet has reportedly suspended the operations of the luxury Blue Train from Monday until further notice.
Transnet said this was due to recent “unfortunate incidents.”
BLUE TRAIN COACH ON FIRE
Last week, Transnet said it was investigating the cause of a fire which broke out in a coach of the Blue Train. The train was in for repairs at the company’s Engineering facility in Koedoespoort, Pretoria.
Transnet spokesperson, Ayanda Shezi said one person was apprehended by Transnet security personnel and handed over to the police.
“Two other people are still at large. The coach in question had been taken to Koedoespoort for repairs after being involved in a derailment last November.
“Transnet has almost completed the investigation into the cause of the November derailment, and as such, today’s incident will not impact the investigations.”
