An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude left East Rand residents rattled in the early hours of Sunday.

Several residents were displaced after their homes were gutted in a fire at an informal area in Canelands in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Saturday night.

Two people were found murdered in a bullet-riddled Toyota Fortuner earlier today, Sunday, 28 August. The two people were killed in a drive-by shooting in Dawncrest, Verulam. 

A 22-year-old man was raped and held captive for about two weeks after leaving with a female prostitute at a bar. The man was offered to spend the night at the home of an unknown couple.

Also, on Sunday, a man was found entrapped in vehicle wreckage on the N1 near Botha Road, Centurion.

Earthquake rattles the East Rand in the early hours of Sunday

An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude left East Rand residents rattled in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the Council for Geoscience, the quake emanated at a site situated between Brakpan, Boksburg, Springs, and Tsakane. It happened at 00.56 am on Sunday morning.

People shared their experiences on social media, with some surprised to have slept through it to others viewing it as a biblical warning.

LOOK: Multiple shacks gutted by fire in Canelands, KZN

Several residents were displaced after their homes were gutted in a fire at an informal area in Canelands in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Saturday night. 

Members of private security, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), reportedly arrived at the scene at approximately 22:06 after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting the fire.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson, Prem Balram said on arrival, Reaction Officers discovered approximately 70 wood and iron homes engulfed in flames.

Two people murdered in bullet-riddled Toyota Fortuner

Two people were found murdered in a bullet-riddled Toyota Fortuner earlier today, Sunday, 28 August.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the two people were killed in a drive-by shooting in Dawncrest, Verulam. Two people were fatally injured following a drive-by shooting in Dawncrest – KZN this afternoon (Sunday).

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received multiple calls from residents reporting high calibre gunfire in Oaklands Drive near Dawncrest.

22-year-old male raped after leaving with a female prostitute

A 22-year-old male was raped and held captive for about two weeks after leaving with a female prostitute at a bar.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the 22-year-old male was offered to spend the night at the home of an unknown couple. The male was located by members of RUSA in Verulam (KZN) yesterday afternoon (Saturday) after he was reported missing by his family two weeks ago.

‘Severely’ entrapped man freed from vehicle in Centurion

A man was found entrapped in a vehicle wreckage on the N1 near Botha Road, Centurion.

Emer-G-Med paramedics said they responded to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision at approximately 6:15 on the morning of Sunday, 28 August. Upon arrival, paramedics were met with a vehicle that was found to have left the roadway.

It was reported that the car overturned a number of times before it came to a rest in a culvert adjacent to the roadway. A closer inspection resulted in medics finding a male, approximately 30 years old, ‘severely’ entrapped in the wreckage.
