South Africans suspicious over stolen R37 000 from minister’s security

South Africans have questioned the reason behind carrying a large sum of cash, which was stolen from the minister’s bodyguard during a highway robbery.

News of a large amount of money being stolen during Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga’s robbery has left South African’s questioning the truth surrounding the purpose of the cash.

According to the Sunday Times, one of Chikunga’s bodyguards lost R37 000 during the robbery two weeks ago, along the N3 between Vosloorus and Heidelberg enroute to Pretoria around 3am.

The bodyguards who are members of the South African Police Service VIP Protection Unit, where busy changing the punctured tyre and returning items to the car when they were ambushed.

R37 000 STOLEN OR TAKEN?

According to the news outlet, the money was intended for roof repairs, however social media has question why, the officer would be carrying a large sum of money the early hours.

Many users have found it as a convenient excuse and there is more to the story than is being revealed.

MINISTER TRAVELLING IN AN UNMARKED CAR

Early reports of the incidents revealed that laptops, cellphones, the bodyguards guns and the Ministers R200 was stolen.

@SimplyMegszcpt wrote, “Why would her bodyguard have R37000 in cash to ‘fix his roof.’ This story keeps getting weirder. What was the minister, her brother and the 2 bodyguards up to.

Chikunga is reported to have been travelling in unmarked vehicles without the blue lights at the time of the robbery. One social media user found the ‘hit’ too coincidental, as it had a large sum of money at the time.

“What are the chances of criminals randomly taking a ‘hit’ on a Minister’s convoy that happens to be carrying R37000 with her?”
