The six men accused of brutally murdering Kaizer Chiefs Football Club’s player, Luke Fleurs, appeared in court on Friday.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Regional Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane provided a list names of the six men:
They were all arrested in Slovoville on 10 April 2024.
The South African Police Service’s Provincial Investigating Unit tracked down Fleurs’ vehicle, which was hijacked in Honeydew on 03 April, based on information they received.
Two armed men allegedly approached Fleurs and his three friends at a filling station after alighting from a BMW.
The attack happened while his friends were inside the shop at the filling station.
“They removed Fleurs and another occupant from his vehicle and immediately occupied the vehicle. As they were driving off, Fleurs tried to grab the door and one of the alleged hijackers then fired at him.”
Mjonondwane stated that authorities charged the six individuals with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition, and defeating the ends of justice.
“The case was postponed to 19 April for the accused to apply for legal representation with Legal Aid South Africa and investigations for the bail hearing.”
According to reports the state will oppose bail.
