The focus in the trial of the five men accused of killing Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa is still on the confession statements allegedly made by accused 1 and 2.
On Monday, 18 March, magistrate Vivienne Cronje who took down accused 2 Bongani Ntanzi’s confession testified at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

As Cronje read the confession into the record, the court heard that accused 5 Fisokuhle Ntuli, a well-known hitman from KwaZulu-Natal contacted singer and Meyiwa’s then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo before the hit.
Meyiwa was shot at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014.
Also, the alleged confession revealed that Ntuli allegedly paid accused 1 and 2 after the job was done. Khumalo allegedly offered the hitmen R100 000 for the hit.
Furthermore, the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria heard that Ntanzi was scared of his co-accused because they allegedly threatened him after the contract killing.
In his testimony in the trial within a trial, lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda revealed that Ntanzi wanted to get into a plea bargain and testify against his co-accused.
Five men are on trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. MuzikawukhulelwaSibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are on trial for the murder of Meyiwa.
The men face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence, and possession of ammunition. All five men pleaded not guilty.

Court proceedings normally start at 10:00, adjourn at 13:00 for lunch and resume again at 14:00. However, due to unforeseen circumstances on a particular day, there are delays, and sometimes court adjourns for either tea or lunch earlier than the set times indicated above.
