The trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, will resume at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Friday, 15 March.

Proceedings were halted for five months as the court heard evidence of 15 witnesses in a trial within the Meyiwa trial. The trial within a trial looked into the admissibility of confessions allegedly made by accused 1 and 2.

SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL RESUMES

On Thursday, 14 March, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng ruled that the confessions are admissible as evidence in the main trial.

The presiding judge said that Sibiya and Ntanzi made the confessions freely and voluntarily. They were in their sober senses and were not coerced as the defence had insisted.

Five men are on trial at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa who was killed at the home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo on 26 October 2014. The men are: Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli.

They face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition. All five men pleaded not guilty.
