Acclaimed music producer Sello Chicco Twala is not happy about Senzo Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso Meyiwa’s statement – which implicates his son, Longwe Twala.

Speaking to ZiMoja, Twala said that he called the Meyiwa family to beg them to advise Sifiso correctly.

Twala was responding to claims made in Sifiso’s statement, read out before the North Gauteng High Court, about Longwe allegedly killing the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

The footballer was shot and killed at his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s family home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014.

Khumalo; her sister, Zandi; their mother, Ntombi Khumalo; Zandi’s boyfriend, Longwe; and two of Meyiwa’s friends, Mthokozisi Thwala and Tumelo Madlala, were all in the house that fateful day.

Five men – Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli – are on trial for Meyiwa’s murder. They have all pleaded not guilty.

According to Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu (representing accused number one, Sibiya), Longwe pulled the trigger.

“According to the evidence that I have as the defence, Senzo was shot when he was separating Longwe (Twala) and Zandi (Khumalo), who were fighting.

“When Longwe came to Kelly Khumalo’s house, he was drunk and was in possession of a 38 special, a revolver. According to my witnesses, there were three shots that were fired, and three people were injured as a result. Senzo was shot dead, Longwe shot himself in the ankle, and the last shot was fired on the floor. As a result, Zandi got injured,” said Mngomezulu.

Twala, whom Mngomezulu said he’d subpoena to testify, told ZiMoja that Sifiso was making a mockery of the trial.

“Today I called Senzo’s family and pleaded with them to advise Sifiso to allow the police to do their work. It’s him who is making a mockery of Senzo’s criminal case. He fired Gerrie Nel after being told the truth about the weapon that killed his brother,” Twala said.

He added that his gun was taken in for ballistics tests, and it was proven that he had nothing to do with the murder.

“The first time we heard that Longwe shot Senzo accidentally was in 2019, and it was Sifiso Meyiwa who made the allegations that we are seeing the incompetent Mngomezulu making noise about.

“I also don’t have evidence that Longwe or the people who were in the house are innocent or guilty; hence, the law must take charge and expose Senzo’s killers. Like I said before, if it is my son who killed Senzo and the state proves beyond reasonable doubt that it’s him, let him rot in jail.”

Additionally, Twala tola Kaya News that he has urged Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza to speak to Sifiso. This comes after Sifiso claimed in his statement that Khoza told him there were no intruders who entered the house.

Khoza refuted the claims made by Sifiso, the court heard.
