Nomalanga was at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria and was reacting to yet another postponement of the soccer star’s murder trial.

SENZO MEYIWA’S FAMILY LOSING HOPE

On Monday, 12 June, the trial was postponed to 17 July 2023 as Presiding Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela was ill and will not be available for a long time.

Speaking after the postponement, an emotional Nomalanga who also shed tears said they were very disappointed because they had to spend money travelling from Durban to Pretoria. Still, no one bothered to tell them there would be a postponement.

“I believe the judge did not fall sick today (Monday), yesterday, or the day before. Even on the day they were informed of his ill health, they already knew they would postpone the matter but did not bother to let us know as a family.

“Seemingly, no one cares about us, especially Senzo’s mother. We are really perplexed by these postponements, and it’s almost ten years since Senzo was killed but we still don’t know what exactly happened,” she said.

Furthermore, Meyiwa’s sister said they have lost hope as it seems they will have to wait another ten years to find out what happened to Senzo.

“There seems to be no progress, but unfortunately, we can’t just let the matter go and give up,” she added.

Meyiwa was shot dead on 26 October 2014 at the home of his then girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, Gauteng.

Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala as well as Longwe Twala, singer Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo and her two children Christian and Thingo were present when the goal keeper was shot.
