Senzo Meyiwa murder trial postponed after defence lawyer falls ill

South African Twitter users are alleging that there is muthi involved in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial as defence lawyer for accused 1 – 2, Advocate Sipho Ramosepele suddenly did not feel well while busy cross examining State witness Mthokozisi Thwala.

The matter was adjourned to Monday, 8 May, barely an hour after it began on Friday, 5 May.

MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL POSTPONED?

Advocate Sipho Ramosepele who kicked off his cross-examination on Thursday, 4 May and kept wiping his face asked for court to adjourn earlier for tea saying he is not feeling well.

Previously, former defence lawyer for accused 1 – 4 Malesela Teffo accused Presiding Judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela of bewitching him. 

On 12 July 2022, Teffo withdrew as the legal counsel for accused 1 -4 citing harassment from the Maumela and the State. He further alleged that a plan to get him off the Meyiwa murder case was hatched in the office of the Presidency.

Teffo said that he started to have nightmares after Judge Maumela brought his sangoma in court and the ill-treatment against him increased more than ever before. 

“I was reliably informed that the involvement of a sangoma in this case was to cause me to collapse inside the court. This is witchcraft aimed at destabilising the defence for accused 1 – 4 and myself being the main target in this regard,” he said. 

Furthermore, Teffo said Judge Maumela started taking muthi in the form of liquid drink every time the court was in session to achieve the said goal of collapsing him inside court.
