The trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa has been postponed to 9 October 2023.

State witness Constable Sizwe Zungu was under cross-examination and is expected to return to the stand when the matter resumes.

ACCUSED FIVE DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN MURDER OF SOCCER STAR

Defence lawyer for accused 5 Advocate Zandile Msholo was expected to wrap up her cross-examination on Wednesday, 4 October.

Accused 5 Fisokuhle Ntuli insisted that he was not in Vosloorus the day Meyiwa was shot and killed.

Through his lawyer, Ntuli provided a picture of himself with accused 3 Mthobisi Mncube at the George Goch hostel in Johannesburg which was taken at 17:28 on the day.

“From around 17:00 accused number 5 moved from George Goch hostel to his place in Johannesburg CBD. At no stage did he move to a hostel in Vosloorus. He denies any involvement in the commission of this offense,” Mshololo said.

The lawyer also told Zungu that her client denies driving a silver polo on the fateful day. Zungu refuted the claim and insisted that he even reversed for Ntuli at the Sotho Hostel where all the accused were at a social gathering according to Zungu.

SENZO MEYIWA TRIAL POSTPONED

After a short adjournment, State Prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi told the court that he intended to call a cellphone analyst from the South African Police Service (SAPS) who was going to testify on downloads from cellphones confiscated from accused 2 and 5.

Baloyi said the police officer’s report was only received last week Friday and the defence was furnished with it on Monday, 2 October when the matter resumed.

The defence then requested time to consult with their clients; Advocate Mshololo asked for two days to go through the downloads from accused 5’s phone.
