Search for six-year-old still missing at sea to continue on Monday

A six-year-old child was still missing at sea on Sunday after the child went for a swim with the mother on Saturday.

THE SEARCH FOR THE CHILD YIELD NO SUCCESS ON SUNDAY

A search and rescue operation was underway on Sunday in an attempt to locate a six-year-old child who is missing at sea, but according to IPSS Medical Rescue, the search yielded no success and would continue on Monday.

“The search for the day yielded no results. Search will resume tomorrow.”

A mother and her child were in the water at an unprotected beach when the pair lost their footing and were swept out to sea.

“The mother was helped back to shore; however, the young child is yet to be located.”

“IPSS Medical Rescues advanced life support paramedics, together with IPSS Search and Rescue division, SAPS Search and Rescue, Metro Police Rescue as well as the NSRI, are continuing the search for the missing child.”

Watercraft, drones, and foot patrols have been deployed on Saturday and Sunday, and efforts intensified.

Meanwhile, an 8-year-old boy was stabbed and brutally murdered allegedly by his mother’s boyfriend when the couple fought on Thursday evening.

THE LITTLE BOY WAS DECLARED DEAD IN HIS OWN HOME

According to Captain Malcolm Pojie, the little boy had already succumbed to multiple injuries, including stab wounds to his body, when police arrived on the scene.

He said police found what they believe is the murder weapon, a knife, inside the residence. The knife was handed in as evidence.

It is believed the mother of the 8-year-old boy and her boyfriend fought on Thursday evening.

Pojie said the couple turned up at the Thembalethu SAPS Community Service Centre on Thursday, at about 18:30, with the disturbing allegations that the 23-year-old boyfriend had killed the 8-year-old boy.

Police were immediately dispatched to the house, where they made the gruesome discovery.

The 8-year-old Imange Jantjies was declared dead on the scene.

The boyfriend was immediately arrested and is currently in detention.
