The Disability Grant is given to people who have a disability that is either mental or physical, but not everyone qualifies.

The South African government provides the Disability Grant to adults who have a disability that is either mental or physical that prevents them from working for six months or more.
The temporary disability payment is for those whose disabilities will last between six and twelve months, while the permanent disability grant is for those whose disabilities will last more than one year.

As of the 1st of October 2023, the Disability Grant is R2 090 per person, every month.
People with greater private incomes will get a reduced grant amount because the value is calculated on a sliding scale.

The applicant must not be in receipt of another social grant in respect of him or herself.
A medical report will be completed by a doctor and sent to SASSA (South African Social Security Agency).

After the date of your assessment, the report is valid for three months.
“If you are under 18 and need permanent care due to your disability, your primary caregiver can apply for a Care Dependency Grant.

” If you don’t have an ID, you will be required to complete an affidavit and provide proof of having applied for the document from the Department of Home Affairs. If you have not applied for an ID, you must do so within three months of applying for the grant,” said the south african government.
