The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) released the payment dates for November. All grants besides the R350 SRD payment can still be collected from post office branches.

NOVEMBER SASSA PAYMENT DATES

In keeping with its commitment to pay out grants as early as possible every month, SASSA said payments would be made in the following order.

Wednesday, 2 November – Older Person’s grants (pension)

Thursday, 3 November – Disability grants

Friday, 4 November – All other grants will be paid from this day onwards, including the children’s grant.

“There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day. Once the money is in the account, it will remain there until it is needed,” said the agency.

As previously reported, the post office no longer pays the R350 grant. Its beneficiaries are encouraged to collect from approved retail outlets or have it deposited directly into their bank accounts.

R350 GRANT EXTENDED

The government said 7.4 million people currently receive the R350 social relief of distress (SRD) grant.

The finance minister, Enoch Godongwana, extended the grant by another year to March 2024. It was meant to expire in March 2023.

“No final decision has been made about a replacement or how it would be financed. As a result, the temporary grant will be extended for one year until March 2024,” he said.

The government has been considering a permanent replacement for the grant. One of the proposals is a basic income grant. Godongwana stressed that any permanent extension or replacement of the R350 grant will require an increase in revenue or spending cuts elsewhere.
