SASSA Chatsworth office CONDEMED

SASSA beneficiaries in and around Chatsworth have been urged to use offices in Pinetown, Umlazi, Wentworth and Durban

Beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency in Chatsworth Durban will have to use other SASSA offices following the closure of its offices.

According to the SABC, the Department of Labour has issued three notices, declaring the Chatsworth Service Centre which houses the SASSA offices unsafe for occupation and will remain closed until further notice.

The notices issued are in line with section 30 of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act of 1993.

“The notices prohibit any person from occupying the premises until such time as the structure and integrity of the building have been certified safe,” says regional spokesperson Sandy Godlwana.

The notice also prohibits the use of electricity and restricts access to the premises until health and hygiene matters are addressed.

Godlwana has urged people access SASSA services online or use their offices in Umlazi, Wentworth, Pinetown, and Durban to access services.

According to Godlwana, the building is owned by the Department of Public Works.
