SASSA card U-Turn: Existing cards valid throughout 2024
Amidst reports of the existing cards expiring next year, SASSA has confirmed that the cards are valid throughout 2024.

Initially, the South African Social Security Agency(SASSA) instructed cardholders to renew their cards by December 31, 2023.
However, due to a sudden change or administrative oversight by SASSA, the current cards can be used until further notice.

SASSA EXISTING CARDS VALID IN 2024
Initially, SASSA gold cards were to be replaced with black ones in 2024, but the expiration date is no longer applicable. The cards also remain valid until government notification.
Dr. Bongani Diako of Postbank expressed satisfaction that expiring SASSA cards for 2024 would remain in circulation, benefiting those in need.
He assured millions of social grant beneficiaries that they need not replace their expiring gold cards for 2024.

Amidst misleading ‘reports and scams’, Diako emphasized that Postbank is the sole institution authorized to replace the gold cards.
Despite the stated expiry date, these gold cards will remain valid beyond December 31, 2023, allowing beneficiaries to use them as usual.
WHERE CAN THEY BE USED?
Grant recipients can use their SASSA cards at various ATMs and retailers such as Boxer, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Usave, and Spar for withdrawals.

Additionally, there is a SASSA Moya mobile app for smartphone users to explore.
The cards facilitate a range of transactions, including free withdrawals at retail shops, bank statements, and balance inquiries.
Notably, official SASSA payment dates for 2024 have been provided, covering Older Persons Grants, Disability Grants, and Children’s Grants.

The agency reminds beneficiaries that payments may take 2–3 days to reflect.
