SAPS ensures safety for Rugby World Cup celebrations

SAPS revealed a thorough strategy to safeguard leisure venues and public gatherings for the upcoming 2023 Rugby World Cup final match.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced its comprehensive plan to oversee and ensure the safety of leisure venues, including fan parks and public gatherings, in anticipation of, during, and after the 2023 Rugby World Cup final match.

The National Crime Combatting Forum (NCCF), consisting of Provincial Commissioners, convened under the leadership of National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola to strategize on measures to guarantee the security and law enforcement presence at these gatherings.

What do SAPS urge the public to do?

In a statement released on Saturday, SAPS revealed that General Masemola expressed satisfaction with the arrangements for monitoring the evening’s festivities as part of Operation Shanela. The operation encompasses regular roadblocks, stop and searches, and the pursuit of wanted suspects.

The SAPS, extending a plea to the public, urged responsible conduct from attendees at these public viewing venues.

They also emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant about one’s surroundings during the celebrations and discouraged drinking and driving, promising strict enforcement of these measures.

Springboks vs All Blacks

The eagerly awaited Rugby World Cup final match will feature the Springboks facing off against New Zealand at France’s Stade de France, with hopes of clinching the Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup.

The kickoff is scheduled for 21:00 and will be broadcast on various sports channels and SABC.
