Water services will resume in sections of Sandton and Midrand this Saturday, bringing relief to many affected by the recent water shortage.

The announcement was made by Ntshavheni Mukwevho, the managing director of Joburg Water, during a briefing in the city, according to EWN.

Sandton and Midrand water supply returns tomorrow

Mukwevho stated, “Our goal is to have these systems up and running by tomorrow.

“Meaning that areas served by the Illovo reservoir in Greater Midrand, the President’s Park reservoir, and the Errand reservoir in Greater Midrand should see their water supply return tomorrow.”

Unfortunately, residents in other parts of Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni will experience a prolonged wait for water supply restoration.

Earlier this week, heavy rainfall caused a power failure at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Plant. As a result, Johannesburg’s water towers and reservoirs are now at critically low or empty levels.

This has affected all the municipalities served by Zuikerbosch, including the City of Johannesburg.

Various areas affected in Gauteng

The water entity reported earlier this week that several reservoirs and towers in Johannesburg have been impacted.

‘These include South Hills, the Commando system (Brixton, Hursthill, and Crosby), Midrand systems, Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest, Naturena, Alexander Park, Berea, Linden 1 tower, Quellerina, and Waterval.’

Below are tips provided by the entity on saving water

  • Do not leave taps dripping
  • Wash your car on the grass with grey water, as this will water your lawn at the same time
  • Shorten your showering time
  • Use a glass of water to rinse when brushing your teeth
  • Take shallow baths and avoid filling your bath to a depth greater than 100mm
